Arirang is a traditional Korean song often considered to be the unofficial Korean national anthem.  There are many versions of the song with varying lyrics, however the refrain generally remains consistent in each version, describing the difficulties experienced by the subject of the song while crossing Arirang Pass, a fictional mountain pass that is a location where lovers may reunite:

Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo

Arirang gogaero neomeoganda.

Nareul beorigo gashineun nimeun

motgaseo balbyeongnanda.

Translation:

Arirang, Arirang, Arariyo
Crossing over Arirang Pass.

Dear who abandoned me [here] Shimrido

Shall not walk even ten li before his/her feet hurt.

Variations on Arirang was composed over the course of 2016.  It was premiered at the 2016 Keene Valley Guitarist-Composer Workshop.
